Well . . .
It looks like I will be continuing with Nordic Water Polo after this high school season (Winter polo) and perhaps on into the Spring and Summer of 2011. I’ve taken time off from coaching since February of this year and that time has allowed me to reevaluate some of the techniques and put together a program that gets maximum improvement without the “this is all you should be doing” commitment.
I’ve got some new plans and will let you know as we get closer to the season.

I am no longer going to be running Nordic Water Polo as my own entity. In the interest of development of the entire section, I am taking a job with DACA and am moving everybody over there.
Winter practices will be Tue/Thur 6-8pm at Monta Vista. Info is available :
DACA info
Feel free to contact me directly with any questions or concerns.
Thanks and we’ll see you on Dec 1.

I’ll expand on this later or at practice, but here are the top 10 things to do for fitness.
1) run
2) run
3) run
4) run
5) burpees
6) run
7) abs
8) abs
9) abs
10) run
I can’t stress enough how important fitness is in our sport, it’s different from swimming speed. You can get fit no matter how “fast” you are in the 100, it’s completely a matter of determination and self discipline.
The running program is 9 weeks long, 3 times per week for 20ish minutes. All of you can find time for that. Yes, running sucks, but it works better/faster than any other form of exercise for getting you fit quickly, and this program eases you into it nicely.
For burpees, I recommend doing them daily. Start with a series of 5,4,3,2,1 resting for about 6 deep breaths between sets, that way you don’t need to worry about a clock and you get to practice the all-important self discipline once again.
Abs/back (aka “core”) — there are 3 or 4 ab exercises that you should be doing, I’ll find better pictures of them and post them soon.
Start now, record your workouts and progress, be amazed at how much easier everything is for you as opposed to the people that didn’t do anything all summer. Yes, there is less of this than the things we tried last summer, but really . . . if you can’t do things that are free and need no equipment, the problem isn’t with your workout plan, it’s with your determination, commitment, and self discipline.

July Events:
Saturday, July 4 — off, no games.
Saturday, July 11 — 16s/18s at St Francis (confirmed)
Saturday, July 18 — 16s at West Valley (confirmed) / 18s possible scrimmages with BAC and Ohlone
Saturday/Sunday July 25/26 16s/18s at IVC in Marin (not confirmed, but he has received the check). I’d like this to be an overnight where we cram into hotel rooms and make a weekend out of it, but more on that later.
Get to practice, lots of folks are taking too many days off and you’ll be starting over again when you do get back.
I almost have the ‘fitness’ section done. You can get the passwords for the college section and fitness sections at practice.
Remember, it’s all about game time, so get to as many of these as you can.

Happy Fathers Day!
Please be at Acalanes High School at 10:30.
1200 Pleasant Hill Rd, Lafayette
It’s about 2 more minutes North on 680 to get to 24West, and once you’re on the 24, it’s the 1st or 2nd Exit (there’s a sign for the school I believe). The school is on the north side of the freeway.

Here’s what we’ve got so far . . . I think this will be it.
First game is at 8:00am at Los Lomas High School (1460 S. Main St. Walnut Creek), about 10 minutes closer than Soda Center.
8:00 am vs. Stanford B
We have to win 1 game on Saturday to play on Sunday, then I think win 2 on Sunday to be officially ‘qualified.’

16s had a tough round on Saturday opening up with a formidable Diablo B team, (oddly lead by a Junior National player who’s older sister is currently on the Olympic team— if you ask me, she will also be on the Olympic team next time or the time after). A significantly better performance in the 2nd game still came up a number of goals short — but not too shabby with no subs and 3 players with very little experience.
18s Qual informatoin is not out yet, but it should be similar — prepare for an early game Saturday in Moraga.
This week:
Don is on vacation, so I’m by myself — which means the schedule is adjusted a bit.
Monday — 4-6
Tuesday 5-6
Wednesday 4-5:40
Thursday 5-6
Unless the boys coach can be there early enough on Tue/Thur to let you in at 4.
See you out there.
